This Sunday morning, the Mt Albert Community Hall and the road were decked with colourful flags and banners. I went and asked what special occasion it was.
The woman kindly told me that this function was sponsored by the Sri Lankan Temple, and they were celebrating Kathina which is a Winter Buddhist festival. She invited me as it was opened to everyone.
Kathina is a festival that takes place during the months of October and November. For 2500 years families have gathered to take part in the largest alms-giving ceremony of the Buddhist year. Friends, old and new, parents and children join together in a celebration on the theme of harmony.

Love the idea of the colourful flags decorating the street. Did they have food?
