Yellow mellow: Giant machines II

I went back to get a reference of how big the machines are.

Auckland has a volcanic rim. Deep in our ground are volcanic rocks . These rock drillers are pretty scary.
  • The cutter wheel is so big, Seen at UNITEC. Is it for students to learn?

Weekend reflection: Lolly making

I was at Auckland's biggest shopping mall, Sylvia Park. I saw this lolly making shop and snapped my photo from the outside. When I got in, I wanted to do him some free PR, but he shook his head. He didn't know I had already taken his photo for this meme. No free advertising from me.

"Try me," says Big Billy Goat Gruff." That's The end of the Ugly Troll, and the small people and goats can now cross the bridge.

Floral Friday: Kaka beak tree

Kaka-beak tree is named after the Kaka – a NZ Native bird

Kowhai ngutukaka or kakabeak is a shrub found only in New Zealand. It is a member of the pea family and its closest relatives are in Australia. In spring it produces stunning large red flowers which hang in clusters of 15-20 blooms.
It has bright green seedpods which turn brown and split open when dry. These pods contain large numbers of tightly packed small black seeds.
Plants can grow up to 2-3m tall, producing long, trailing stems that form new plants when they come into contact with soil. In this way, one parent plant can cover a large area.

Photohunt: Kindness

This week's theme Kindness made me think how to do this. Then I thought of Pat Holdaway. I have been privileged to work in Mt Albert Baptist Church's ESOL Class the past 5 years. To me, Pat is the epitome of Kindness.

Pat lived her working life as a nurse in Africa, survived a revolution. How she survived when the attackers came was a miracle.

When she retired, she came back to MABC, first as a helper and then a teacher. She has much rapport with the African refugees and her knowledge of French helps. Her health failed and she can't eat anything not prepared by her.

Here to you, Pat, my hat off to you.

Lilies are in full bloom. I could stay here the whole day. The volunteers of Mt Albert Church's ESOL school were invited to Eden Garden. Auckland's best kept secret. Now it is not a secret any more more now that I told the whole wide world.

Yellow: Art as an expression

http://mellowyellowmonday.blogspot.com/
http://climbingthedigitalmountain.blogspot.co.nz/2012/12/remembering-children-december-14-2012.html

My blogging friend Genie  posted art that she drew. Like everyone she is touched by the seneslessness of it all. What is more wonderful is she
remembers that I as a bereaved mum "can truly comprehend the grief these parents feel."

Remembering the Children ~ December 14, 2012

On April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh bombed the Murah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and damaged or destroyed 324 other buildings. Of the 168 people killed, 19 were children. Today we lost 20 children and 6 adults in a senseless killing spree at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. After the Oklahoma City killings I did a series of cards entitled "Remembering the Children." Tonight I went upstairs and searched out that series of little watercolors, and I am posting them for our Skywatch Friday. As you can see, my little drawings depicted the children as angels floating up through the blue sky to Heaven. My artwork is terribly primitive, but it came from the heart in 1995, and it once again comes from the heart on December 14, 2012...a heart that is weeping once again.

Bereaved parents are holding an art exhibition at the Peacock Art Gallery, Upton Country Park, Poole from the 31 January to 4 February 2013 in memory of our babies that we have lost.

Artwork created in memory of our babies we have lost and to express our grief and sadness. Wish you were here, my baby.

The first two pieces where done by my older daughter aged 4 + plus, she understood that her baby brother was dying.  In the first picture, she drew him floating as an angel with wings. The yellow is the cover of my book.

You are invited to send in your artwork so that it can be part of our online gallery in memory of your baby.  Please e-mail artwork to foreverinmyheartexhibition@yahoo.co.uk.

Scenic Sundays: Boats in Sarawak

We went to Mulu and I told my son that we would go on a "Perahu" a long boat. He was disappointed the man operated it had an outboard engine. We did have a bit of fun when on parts of the river trip, he had to kill the engine and the other man used a long pole to push the "Perahu" boat along. The water was swift flowing, and the sand bars and the fallen logs were so closed to the "Perahu" boat. We were glad we had our life jacket.

Chen Francis I tell you a story Ms CHAN..
In 1972, a new classmate invited me to his house across river in Sg Nyamok. I declined his invitation because I didn't know how to swim & he was plying to & fro by a sampan as yours in the picture. You know what happened then, he rowed home and came back with his father's fishing trawler just to bring me over! He is the friend whom I will never forget.

Ann Chin You have such a fantastic friend. I hope you both are still good friends. He must have valued you as a friend to go to all the extent to borrow his Dad's trawler, to lose his Dad's 1/2 a day's income. Yes, You must have been a great friend . I would like to be a friend. Yes, he would be a special friend. You know why? because you are a special friend to me and to all the Lau Peng Yew.

Chen Francis He is dentist in Miri. Yes we are good friend & we shared a lot of sweet memories... Nguan Sing Ung 1975 F 5, can you still recall him... he was then the Head of school Red Cross.
