ABC Wednesday, Thursday Theme Song: Teddy

http://abcwednesdayround3.blogspot.com/

hootin--anni has a new meme.
IT'S ALL ABOUT MY NEW MEME THAT I HOPE SOME WILL FEEL LIKE JOINING IN ON THE CHALLENGE AND THE FUN [at least I hope the weekly challenge will be fun!]. It's loosely based on song lyrics [recorded songs since the beginning of time to today] and associating them with photos of yours...as I've done in the past...If you click on the link above, it'll take you to the Meme's Homepage for rules and buttons. There will be a Mr. Linky Widget for each individual week also. Do consider joining me sometime. Hope to see it flourish in time.

It is summer, and the teddies are out to play. What is better than going to Christmas in Rocket for a picnic. The organisers, ( Mt Albert Baptist Church) even had a prize for the cutest bear.

My oldest daughter used to sing this song.
The Teddy Bear's Picnic

By Jimmy Kennedy

If you go down to the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down to the woods today
You'd better go in disguise.

For ev'ry bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.

Ev'ry teddy bear who's been good
Is sure of a treat today.
There's lots of marvelous things to eat
And wonderful games to play.

Beneath the trees where nobody sees
They'll hide and seek as long as they please
Cause that's the way the teddy bears have their picnic.

If you go down to the woods today
You'd better not go alone.
It's lovely down in the woods today
But safer to stay at home.

For ev'ry bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.

Picnic time for teddy bears
The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today
Watch them, catch them unawares
And see them picnic on their holiday.

See them gaily gad about
They love to play and shout;
They never have any care;

At six o'clock their mummies and daddies,
Will take them home to bed,
Because they're tired little teddy bears.

Christmas in The Rocket Park. 2010 and Plunket

http://mellowyellowmonday.blogspot.com/

This year, our church Mt Albert Baptist Church again decided to give the profits to Plunket. I was very happy because I benefited in a big way from Plunket when I was a young Mother.

I was organising my ESOL student volunteers to hand out the goodie-bags when I overheard this lady saying that she is a Plunket lady. I went up to her and asked if she worked at Plunket Landscape Road, and she said yes. I asked if she worked there for a long time, and she said yes. As long as twenty years ago. She said yes.

I hugged her. In my heart, she is symbolic of all the good people who helped me when Andrew was alive. I told her that I was that mother whose baby died. It sort of completed my cycle just as I am writing my book and revisiting that horrible time.

The Plunket Nurse said her name is Jane and asked if I remembered the other nurse. I didn't remember their names or faces, but I remember their kind deeds. They took care of me and my children. Jane said she came to Plunket Landscape Road in 1990, and had heard of me. Of course, I was still going to Plunket in 1990 for my second daughter's excema problem and seeing Dr. Rowley.

Thank you Plunket. You are the “bestiest” as my ESOL kids tell me all the time.

I just got back from the Mt Albert Christmas in the park 2010. The weather was fantastic, and we had a great crowd.
We were fortunate to have the lovely TV celebrity Petra Bagust to be our MC again this year. We were blown away by the Late 80"s mercedes band. I even went to the moss pit and danced the evening away.

PhotoHunt 241: Writing

The Mt Albert Baptist just held her 2010 Christmas in Rocket park. Some of our ESOL students came to help give away goodie bags and sell drinks.

Here the students wrote the prices of the icecream so it was easier to sell them.

Last year my school did a Pirates' production. I encouraged my students to write a good bye note when they ran away.http://annkschin.blogspot.com/2009/09/pirates-gentlemen-of-fortune.html

On Wednesday, I posted a photo of a pirate, and some of the bloggers would like to see the notes so they could write a note when they decide to run away too. LOl

Instead of a tornado chaser, I was a cloud chaser. I drove my car chasing them, I found the radiating our streaks of clouds very interesting.

ABC Wednesday/Thursday Theme Song: Spider

http://abcwednesdayround3.blogspot.com/

In school, I have been using the British Council's interactive lessons in teaching how, Anansi the Spider got his long thin legs. This story comes from West Africa and the Caribbeans. With the adult students, I give them a lesson of the Slavery History. With the children,I give them strings of wool to be the spider web, and they pull Anansi and have lots of fun.

Some of my children are from Africa, and they are very happy to be learning this story. We use a potato to make stamps and make a before and after of Anansi. The we go to the school grounds and look for Anansi.

How did Anansi get his thin legs? Have you guessed? According to legend, Anansi didn't have thin legs, rather, he had short stubby legs. Anansi was greedy and cunning. He got his friends to pull his web when they were ready for him. Of course, by the time a few friends pulled the webs, his legs got thinner and thinner.

Did you know that spider man has a double, that is why he can work so hard. LOL, These boys are twins, I am not sure who is who. Their mum gave me a few photos.

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He's ingnored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider man.

Yellow Mellow Monday, My thoughts.

http://mellowyellowmonday.blogspot.com/
Having a dead child. Written by Ann Chin
Your bags are packed.
Your tickets are ready.
You are going to Cannes to be among all the glitz and glamour of celebrity world.
You have to skimp and save for this trip.
Your anticipation is great.
You board the plane,
You get served Champagne by a beautiful air stewardess.
You are tired, you have a shut eye.
You open your eyes,
You see everyone running away.
You know the plane has crashed,
You smell the smoke,
You hear the explosion.
You hear them say, “Go! Go! Go! The plane has landed in Timbuktu or is it Kalamazoo.”
You are alone,
Your legs are wedged.
You go girl, or you will be left alone.

This sums my story when my son died twenty one years ago today, on November 22 1989. Everybody has gone to leave you alone to swim or sink. It took me a long time to swim, I have survived and moved on. Twenty one year's birthday is a special day, he is celebrating his birthday in Heaven.

Scenic Sunday: Beautiful New Zealand

By now, the whole world will have heard of the mine explosion in New Zealand. The devastated families of the Pike River 29 are being urged to cling to hope. It is a slim hope: to find survivors from the massive methane explosion that tore through a West Coast coal mine. As relatives waited on a knife-edge to learn of news of their loved ones early today, a source close to the rescue effort said emergency services were not confident.

Everyone is hoping that the miracle that happened to Chile will be repeated here.

Weekend reflection: Pike River mine explosion in New Zealand

http://newtowndailyphoto.blogspot.com/
We had a mine explosion here in New Zealand. I reflect not so long ago when the Chillean miners were trapped in their mine. I reflect on do we need so much fossil fuels to produce so much electricity. I ponder if we are using our resources wisely. I wonder if we should be mining so much at all.

In April, I wrote against mining in beautiful native bush.
http://ann-mythoughtsandphotos.blogspot.com/2010/04/skywatch-friday-save-our-worldmarch.html

Pike River Coal CEO Peter Whitall says it unlikely that yesterday's explosion could have caused a collapse at the mine, where 29 miners remain missing.

Family and friends of the missing miners gathered last night at the Pike River headquarters in Greymouth, before moving to a nearby Red Cross welfare centre.

Most were reluctant to comment during their anxious wait, but supporters said it was a frustrating time.

"All we can do is wait," said one.

Police were encouraging families to use the welfare centre, which was warm and dry, instead of trying to go to the mine.

The access road is closed except to those involved in the rescue bid.

Ikamatua panelbeater John Batten said everyone in the town - about 46km from the mine - was very concerned.

"Everybody's hoping for the best and it's not looking good at present. It's an absolute major. We're just waiting. It's catastrophic."

These are my only two photos of Greymouth we took during our trip in 2000, it was significant, Sam was three and we were worried that he was afraid of Santa, but Sam proved us wrong. That day in Greymouth was also significant to me. The Top Ten camping site was located next to an old cemetery. I woke up very early in the morning, and walked among the graves. It was revisiting my late baby Andrew's time when he was alive.

This platter of sub tropical fruits of Australia or mango, cherries, lycees and grapes I had in my brother Joseph and Audrey's Christmas dinner party is juicy and mouth watering.

Thursday Theme Song: Teletubbies

I am guilty of letting Teletubbies babysitting my son.
Today at fourteen,
When I ask him, "How's your exam?"
OK
"you got homework?"
Yes
"You hungry?"
Yes.

Did you let your kids watch Tetetubbies?
Child experts said it was harmful to children.
