Photohunt: Itchy

The first two phots are ants' nest. They are not itchy. What is itchy are those creepy crawlies or min beast crawling inside.

In Borneo, we called this kind of guava, water guava or Jambu Madu. It is very sweet and juicy. My parents had a couple of trees and we used to have buckets of the fruits. Some times we dipped it in salt or the sour plum powder.

These two photos were taken in my Uncle Albert's garden in Miri. If you click on the photo you have to look carefully at the green guava photo, you can see the red ants. I was stung badly while I was photographing the fruits. Apparently the ants had a function, they pollinate the flowers. Without them, there will be no fruits.

I love eating the jambu with black sauce which some sugar and crush chili had been added- it's delicious, hot and sweet at the same time. Have you tried eating them this way?

I would say that the ants definitely qualify as itchy. I'm sorry you got stung while photographing the guava, but this was an interesting post.

Hi Ann, Itchy--may not be the correct word, but thinking about all of those ants made me SHiVER.....

Interesting post though.... Glad the ants had a purpose, to pollinate the flowers... That's neat.
Hugs,
Betsy

This fruit looks very tasty and delicious indeed but i'll pass on the ants that stung you while taking the photos not a good feeling i guess. The ants have there purpose in life to defend and pollinate the plant.

I've never heard of ants with a nest like that, I thought they all lived in ant hills underground! Oh, how many stung you? Did it hurt much and does it itch now? How painful is it, I've heard it really hurts?
