Thursday Challenge: Green Cool Wall.

 
In Australia last week I was intrigued by the Ferry Road Market. I saw this massive upstairs wall of the exterior wall. I watched on TV another wall, which is very green.

As I am always interested in environmental issues, I posted this in my Facebook, asking my readers if this "creepered" wall will keep the building cool. My friend Andrew Lim said yes, and he is their distributor.

I flew out of Auckland Airport to Australia.

There was a dwarf from the Lord of the Rings.

Auckland International Airport, considered the Gateway to Middle-earth as it is where the vast majority of visitors to New Zealand first set foot, is supporting the efforts of Tourism New Zealand, Air New Zealand and other leading industry players who are working to enhance the country’s international profile as a fun, must-see tourism destination; an innovative and creative nation, and a great place to make films and do business.
“With more than 90 per cent of all long-haul visitor arrivals landing at Auckland Airport, that is where they will get to experience their first exciting taste of New Zealand,” says Adrian Littlewood, Chief Executive Officer for Auckland Airport.
"It is fantastic we are able to be part of the excitement and massive exposure that will be generated globally by these movies, and to support the impressive work being done by many others in the tourism industry to leverage this significant opportunity to promote New Zealand to international travellers.
The installations, which feature large statues and depictions from the film, are aimed to stimulate the imagination of travellers and form part of the hype around the movie’s upcoming release.
The Weta Workshop dwarf installation was designed by Weta concept designers Chris Guise and Rebekah Tisch, and incorporates two 16ft (5m) tall dwarf sculptures and four 20ft x 9ft (6.5m x 3m) archways in typical dwarven architectural design.
“We’re very excited to have partnered with Auckland Airport to create some of the first things that greet overseas visitors and returning New Zealanders when they land in Auckland,” says Weta Workshop Creative Director Richard Taylor.
“We have spent several years living and breathing Middle-earth again, and we’re thrilled to be able to share it in this way.”
The Tourism New Zealand installation is a 23m (75.5ft) lenticular display blending the fantasy of Middle-earth with the reality of New Zealand. It welcomes visitors “to a place where fantasy comes to life” and encourages them to share their Middle-earth experiences through social media channels at #realmiddleearth.
Chief Executive Kevin Bowler says the display aims to inspire travellers to take in more of New Zealand’s magical landscapes and activities, and to discover that there is a whole world of experiences to be had and people to meet within the movie-scene style landscapes.

marantaceace,re" Calathea Warscewiczii  wild ginger. Calathea warscewiczii also produces showy cone-like inflorescences. The bracts that cover the cone are creamy white in colour when they first emerge and they gradually turn to yellow and take on a pinkish hue with time. They are spirally arranged around the cone and the rims of these bracts fold over the edge, which make the entire cone looks somewhat like a rose flower when viewed from the top!

Youth departing for Samoa

One of the happiest thing for a writer is not when he/she 

writes her book, or sells her first book. It is having it 

available for everyone to borrow it from the library.

Praise God that my two books will be in circulation in Borneo 

where I was Born and In New Zealand where I now live. It's 

like I am not a bonafide writer.

My son says, mum, you are a cave woman. I am happy to be one. I making my own enzyme to wash my floors and dishes, and use as fertilizer,composting, recycling, worm farming. My philosophy goes back to "A Blade of Grass" and "Mad Max."

abc wednesday: Letter Y for Yao Ming, and Doctor Sun Yat Sen

      

The most famous Chinese in the contempory world must be Yao 

Ming. He  is a retired Chinese professional basketball player 

who last played for the Houston Rockets of the National 

Basketball Association (NBA). At the time of his final season, 

he was the tallest active player in the NBA, at 2.29 m (7 ft 6 in).^[1]

Dr Sun Yat Sen, the Father of modern China. Sun Yat-sen 

University, informally called Zhongshan University 

(simplified Chinese: 中山大学; traditional Chinese: 中山大學;

 pinyin:Zhōngshān Dàxué), has a main campus in 

Guangzhou, Guangdong province, and a secondary one in 

Zhuhai. The University is named after the man who founded it in 1924 - Sun Yat-sen,

I spent last evening with young people like Yulia to learn

Chinese and we learned Famous Chinese personalities.

My grandpa would have been very proud of me when I 

shared my knowledge of Dr Sun Yat Seng. Speaking in 

Mandarin was quite scary when you don't have the vocab.

I went on to speak on 2 characters who could be friends, 

and I chose Li Na the Tennis French Open Champion and the 

first Chinese astronaut.  Yang Liwei being launched aboard 

Shenzhou 5, becoming the first man sent into space by the 

Chinese space program

Finally, I chose Bruce Li in a guessing game.
