Lake of eels

These photos of eels are for http://scenicsunday.blogspot.com/

This lakes at Western Springs in Auckland are known as the Lake of the eels by the Maoris. They come to feed from the bread crumbs thrown by visitors to the park. Visitors come in droves and on a Sunday, the eels, and other feathered animals are too full to be bothered. Still, that doesn't deter the visitors.

Wonderful pictures of the eels swimming and great post about the visitors coming to feed the eels! I have never seen eels in their natural surroundings.

Thank you for visiting earlier and commenting on the deer. There is a specified hunting season in British Columbia (autumn). My husband and I are not hunters. We like seeing them and taking photographs.

Hi Dinzie,

When I was there, some people were catching the eels. They told me," Take it home, keep it in th ebath for one year." then it becomes good KAI aka food.

I ate some smoked eel during Pasifika. It tasted the same as the japanese smoked eel Unagi. They are delicious.

April,

you can also find eels in the water ways of the Gold Coast in Australia. These ones are bigger than the Western Spring's.

Cheers,

Ann
