Save the world: Thursday Theme Song: Butterfly

I teach children with song and movement and with show and tell. In New Zealand, people plant swan plants for th monarch butterflies. In Singapore, I grew lime trees not for the lime fruit but for the leaves so beautiful black and white butterflies will come and lay eggs.

I take the eggs, caterpillaries, chrysalis (or pupa) to school and read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", a children's picture book designed, illustrated and written by Eric Carle, and I modify this song. Finally we enact the life cycle of the butterfly. I think I make a beautiful butterfly fluttering my arms and twirling round the room. LOL.

The kids get to learn the days of the week and the numbers. Also I tell them the moral of the story is Do not eat too much, a very appropriate book in the context of today's world that families are so affluent that kids eat too much and become obese.

Jim Ed Brown Butterfly

Fell in love in the wink of an eye with the girl
who was called Butterfly She said she loved me so
she could not let me go but still I had to say
goodbye Butterfly my Butterfly I'll come home to
you one day Butterfly my Butterfly wait for me
don't fly away

Never fly in the heat of the sun close your wings
when the long day is done
Stay home and wait for me
till I get back and then counting the minutes
one by one Butterfly my Butterfly...

When a man longs to be free he will sail to the
end of the sea I won't be gone too long but while
I travel on just close your wings and wait for me
Butterfly my Butterfly... Butterfly my
Butterfly...
