I went to the Winter garden at the Auckland Domain. There is a formal courtyard with a pond with statues and fountains. When I see these reeds, they bring me back to when I was a child in tropical Borneo. These reeds grow wild in our creeks. Here in temperate Auckland, they are ornamental plants.

The reeds are lovely, Ann. I adore the lily pads too. I don't see many water plants in my area.
Regarding your question about the orange flowers on the barrel cactus, yes they are edible. :)
