Skywatch Friday: Snow in spring

http://skyley.blogspot.com/

Traditionally our skiing season ends on labor weekend which is on October 23rd. But yesterday we had a bitterly cold snap. Snow flows could be expected down to 700-800m around Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

Despite our spring season, we had blustery southerly winds, heavy rain and low temperatures. I was caught out by not wearing enough clothing as cold winds made it feel even colder.

The cold snap had been driven by a low front plaguing the South Island moving up the country.

Wow - looks like cold but gorgeous spring weather.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what kind of birds they are in my shot.

That sure looks cold to me!

[I had not heard about the everlasting happy meal, but a quick google tells me everything I need to know. I believe she did the experiment, and I think McD is right to respond that we are not given enough of the atmospheric conditions to know what really happened. I don't eat at McD ever.]

That looks like a very beautiful area. Snow season should arrive at our house any week now. It's late this year!

I love that little bit of sun on the mountain in the back. And the way you actually caught the snow blowing and kind of drifting.

Oh oh I hope everything is fine there. Hubby told me that there are times that snow came on early spring that's why they don't plant early in spring for they are afraid of frost and snow. Looks like that place is nice to visit. Happy Friday!

Even with the snow and cold, it makes such a lovely picture, I guess this is what I have to look forward to in a month or two. We are entering Fall, therefore Winter is not far behind. Brrrrrr....

Crazy weather, Ann. We have all had it this year... Here in Tennessee, we are very dry --and are desperate for some rain...

I love snow---but not so late in the season....

You asked about deer being 'protected'.... YES---all critters are protected here.. It's a nice place for them to live.
Hugs,
Betsy

We could get our first fall snow any day now. It is hard for me to imagine that it is that cold where you live.
