Spring time has come.

I learn this song when I was in school. It came back to me when I had to teach the seasons. My kids knew it wasn't an English song. I went to take a video in Western Springs, and  filmed cignets, Australian coots babies and ducklings. I don't know where the golsings and chicks were.

Haru Ga Kita (Spring Has Come)

Haru ga kita
Haru ga kita
Doko ni kita?
Yama ni kita
Sato ni kita
No ni mo kita

Hana ga saku
Hana ga saku
Doko ni saku?
Yama ni saku
Sato ni saku

Tori ga naku

Doko de naku?
Yama de naku

Spring time has come, come,
Spring time has come, come,
Where has spring time come,
Up on the mountains,
Down in the valleys,
And here in our homes.

Birds are singing, Birds are singing,
Where are they singing?

Ducks are swimming,

Flowers are blooming,

Bees are buzzing,

Global Genes Project

How do people make it through life without a sister?
~ Sara Corpening

THANKS for all the inspirational photos you are sending in for our upcoming Tribute Gala on Sept. 27. We need more!

Meet sisters Cali and Ryann -- they have an undiagnosed rare genetic disease that prevents them from walking without walkers, talking and taking care of themselves. After dozens of tests, doctors are searching
for what is causing Cali and Ryann's neuro condition. Despite their challenges, these sisters are true fighters!!!

If you have an amazing photo to share for our Gala, send to Chris Hempel: chris@hempelfamily.com. Chris is a GGP volunteer and she is collecting photos for this incredible photo display. Photos must be 2MB or larger, professional quality if possible, plain pics are fine without Hope slogan -- adults, boys, girls -- send them in people! ;-)

weekend reflection: Cars

I was 6 when Dad retired his BSA motorbike because it wasn't suitable to the tropical torrential rain. He took me to school and I was embarrassed. and I hated it when it rained. I wanted to go with my sister and brother by bus. The bike was hard to start and the joke in the family was Dad ruined so many pairs of shoes trying to start it.

The crunch came when he took Mum to the Sibu Teacher's college graduation ceremony 5 miles away. Mum had gone to the hairdresser that afternoon, wore a feminine Cheong Sum. At that time, they didn't wear helmets, Mum had a scarf and sat side ways. When they got there, Mum was like a wet duck.

Not long after, Dad bought a second hand Fiat 1100. Everyone was happy. There were not many cars in Sibu. We cleaned the car every Saturday. We polished and for  rewards, Dad took us out to the country for picnics. Dad had studied in England and learnt some of the English ways. Some of the neighbours tsk tsk that he was trying to be an English man. Mum soon learn to drive. Not many women drove then.

The water engineer complains I don't clean our cars. You can see the spider webs at the side mirrors. I told him, I cleaned one and only car. the car we got when I was 6.

I tried to look for that car, The licence plate was S899. This meant it was the 899 car in Sibu. The fong shui practitioners say it is a good number. 8 sounds Fa or prosperous, 9 forever. S could be taken as $. I don't know about being rich, but with the 9 kids who rode in that car, we are rich in our relationship and we have good education and good careers.

This car is not our S899. I looked far and wide, Often looking into mirror. I found this on the internet. It even has the same 2 tone colours.  I wrote to Tony if I could use it, He said yes. What a lovely man. Thanks for fulfilling my pangs of nostalgia.

Why Childhood Cancer Awareness?

My friend K posted this on her facebook. We became friends when she asked me what happened to my baby Andrew. I told her Andrew died. I never asked how she knew about me. We became friends and our mutual friend D told me that her daughter had cancer. Thankfully, her child is now in remission.

Now we have another mutual friend who is facing a worst case scenario. It is terrible.

I wrote in my book, "The worst kind of tragedy is for a parent to bury a child."

Some people don't want to hear about sadness. I want to "sing" about it, because the more people are aware of sad scenarios like this, the more awareness there will be and more funds will hopefully be channelled to it.

ABC Letter H

In a inner city creche, I saw this. nothing inside? Is it a rabbit hutch or a chicken hutch?
If you are not scared of heights, climbing up high would be fun.

Mellow Yellow: Train is coming

Can you see the man in black.

The man in his bike passes me and cycles on.

Today, I came face to face with two idiots.
They used their lives to play Russian Roulette.
I stopped with other cars.
The rail crossing bell clanged,
The rail crossing bars came down.
I see a man walk across,
He must think he was very smart.
People shout,"Idiot!"
A man on his bike,
I wait to see what he was going to do.
He crosses in nick of time.
"Idiot!" he could have been another statistic.

In the last 12 months there have been:

2307 reported occurrences, resulting in
  • 16 deaths
  • 120 injuries

Please vote for Takiri , It is not Takiri's fault that he needs clutches.

https://www.facebook.com/AMPdoyourthing/app_388359517893913  if you have a facebook account.

My thing is I most want to be walking and running without my crutches. I have cerebral palsy, it affects the muscles in my legs which is why I need crutches to help me get around. Horse Riding helps my muscles and balance

I do not know Takiri until today when I was told by friends about this New Zealand $10,000 AMP Scholarship when they asked me to vote either for them or their family. I went into the facebook and saw Takiri's page.

The flower I chose for this week has red leaves that look like hearts. In Chinese, a good heart is a kind heart. I found this in my friend Francis Chen's garden. Francis has already voted for Takiri. He has a good heart. He voted for a boy, he doesn't know, thousands of miles away because he believed in me.

The nature of my goal

To achieve my goal I need to excerise alot to strengthen my muscles but it is hard work and I need help everyday to do this. I have horse riding lessons once a week, this is important+ helps me with posture, balance, rhythm and muscle tone, It has been a huge benefit to me, I get a good workout, my body feels better afterwards and I am much more confident in myself. I ride my horse really well and I hope to be in the paralympics one day. I need lots of financial support to make my goal happen.

*********************************************************************************

Today is Father's day in New Zealand. My church honoured the fathers, the Sands of New Zealand honoured the fathers especially bereaved fathers.

Seated in front of me in church was Dr Jonathan Moy. I want to honour him specially, this year his wife Dr Fen Moy went on a mission trip to India. Jonathan stayed at home to take care of their 5 year old twins, Hannah and Daniel.

After church, I made two new friends from Nepal, Rabinbastjal and Prinkarana. We talked and I told them about the Siamese Nepalese babies I helped raise funds to separate them. I am reminded of the twins Dad, Bhushan. Ganga didn't make the separation and died. I am also reminded why I worked very hard to raise the funds.

Sandhya Shrestha, the mum asked through an interpreter why I did it. I told the interpreter my baby son Andrew didn't make it. I was powerless to save him. Here I was, helping to giver her a fighting chance to save her babies. It was a great privilege that I saw Jamuna and Ganga while they were still conjoined.

That was in 2000, but if I have to do it again, I will happily do so. Now 12 years later, I am pressed to do the same for Takiri. Me, the mum of the baby with funny legs, I couldn't do anything with Andrew but watch hopelessly as he died. I want to do something for Takiri.

Will you, if you have a Facebook account vote for him? That someday, he won't have funny legs anymore. Perhaps he could even compete in the para Olympics games.
