Mellow Yellow: Airport Ambassadors.

When I am retired, I shall like to be a "bluecoat" in our Auckland International Airport.


Our airport hospitality ambassadors, otherwise known as 'bluecoats' for their distinctive coloured jackets, are on hand to offer passengers help when at the airport. They can help you find your way and direct you to what you need.


You can find the airport information helpdesks at a number of locations:

International terminal: in the public areas in check-in, departures and arrivals areas. In the passenger only area, the helpdesks can be found on the second floor and in the customs hall
Domestic terminal: in the main arrivals area, near baggage claim carousels 1 and 2.

Making your pizza in school.

We are very lucky to have the students from Diocesan school for girls to help us build our pizza oven. Under the instruction of Ron Sperber of earthwhile.co.nz, they and our senior students built what I dub as a traditional oven using traditional material. They use dirt, sand and wood chips and lots of leg grease.

Mellow yellow: Strong waves at Bethells beach.

While most of us were just frolicking in the strong waves at Bethells Beach, my 15 year old tried to surf. I too joined the rest and talk of being drama queen, I was knocked over by a huge wave, fell, gurped mouthful of salty water, and dragged a few meters, scraped my knee, and lost my sun glasses.

The surf guard asked if I was alright. I didn't dare to tell him I lost the glasses.


Missing teenager's body found near Bethells Beach

Police have found the body of a 15-year-old boy who was swept out to sea off Bethells Beach on Auckland's west coast five days ago.

Zebedee Pua, 15, went missing from O'Neill Bay, 1km north of Bethells Beach, last Thursday after rescuing a young girl from the surf.

The boy's body was spotted from the Eagle police helicopter at Kirikiri Bay, north of Bethells Beach, about 5pm Tuesday and was recovered with the help of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Pua was last seen alive by his 12-year-old brother Raymond, who said he and his older brother had been wandering around the rocks and did not plan to go swimming.

He said his brother was a ''hero'' for rescuing the young girl.

Bethells is Auckland's third-most dangerous beach, according to the number of rescues.

Surf Life Saving figures show 114 people were rescued there in the past four years, with 22 in the past year.

Mellow Yellow Monday : People and businesses with a soft spot for animals

I was at a cafe at Omaha beach. Outside at the Alfredo dining, near the columns, were bowls of water for dogs. Good job, cafe proprietor.

Judith was my neighbour in NTU, in Singapore. She was the founder of Cat Cafe and invited me to be one of the founding members. Though she had left for UK, she is still very involve with Cat Cafe.
"We're still right here in Wootton Wawen, a village of about 1200 people in Warwickshire, near Birmingham, in the British W. Midlands. I continue to be involved with animal welfare in my helping role for the NTU Cat Management Network and as a supporter here in the UK of the Avon Valley Cat Rescue, where I periodically clean cages and help with fund-raising activities such as their bazaars. I will be taking on the running of our local public library here, together with 58 other volunteers, now that the county government has decided to close the local branch of the county library system and turn it over to a community enterprise (ours.)"

From the home made beach in a city apartment in Singapore, my 15 year old has graduated to wanting to surf in the deep wide ocean.

We enrolled him for a surf lesson. It was cold and rainy. While he was warm and snug in his wet suit, I was shivering and dripping wet with a tourist from Germany.

My cousin Ambrose snapped this in Malaysia. I joked with him $1 seat, and 50 cents seat. When I am hungry, I am not fussy where or what I sit on.

I am showing you this rope mountain which must be 5 storeys high. I went less than 1/3 and I had to give up.

This is at Coyle's park which is near to my school. Compare this to the eagles nest that was newly installed in the school.

Our school has a new challenging equipment. It is called the eagle's nest and is very high. The money is raised by the PTA, and the seniors take turns to play on it. The kids love it.

LOL, I must clarify and should have written seniors of a primary school. the juniors are very jealous.

I was once given this Chinese Tea glass. I didn't dare to use it because I thought the hot water would break the glass and it would be too hot to handle.

When I was packing my stuff I had never used and still in it's box, I had a close examination. I found it was like two glasses like a thermos, and when you pour hot water, the outer layer doesn't touch the hot water.

I decided to use it. There is a sieve like thing that goes on top so that when you drink the tea, you don't get the tea leaves to your mouth.
