Friday was Armistice Day: In 1918, Over 90 years ago, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, when the "war to end all wars" or known as the World War One in Europe ended. 18,000 New Zealanders died.
Many New Zealand soldiers fought and died in the European soil. It is not a public holiday. My radio deejay was complaining that people had become complacent. Wreath-laying ceremonies mark Armistice Day at the National War Memorial in Wellington and at many local War Memorials throughout New Zealand. As part of these ceremonies, two minutes silence is observed at 11 a.m. on 11 November in memory of those New Zealanders who died while serving their country.
On my way home from work, I saw an old soldier coming out of the RSA, returned services association. He was wearing a suit, but had his badges on.
My reflection for this theme is for us to reflect on the soldiers who went to war to fight for us. Lest we forget.

Lest We Forget. Many Australian soldiers lost there lives on European soil to and fought side by side with New Zealand soldiers.
I did not know that anyone from New Zealand ever fought in wars! I always think of New Zealand as being neutral, kind of like Sweden. Shows how much I know about this-nothing!

Hi Ann, We just celebrated our Veterans Day on Thursday... I'm surprised that your country doesn't make it a special holiday. We need to remember all of those wonderful people who fought for our country.

In reply to your question: My parents emigrated to Australia from Wales after the World War 2 so My Grandfather wouldn't have had any contact with Australian or New Zealand soldiers in World War 1as far as i know.
