mellow yellow Monday: Big road construction machines



I have always loved big machines, and most of these machines are yellow. Do you know why?

Because yellow is "wong" in Cantonese, and "ong" in Hokkien.

I would guess they're yellow for visibility. I think most people like big machines like this, I know I do!

Louis la Vache, Thanks, some one told me before. That is why my snow/ski pants is yellow. My daughter sayd," Why, mum you buy it yellow?' I replied I read somewhere, if I get lost, people cane see me for far away.

The same reason they paint the roads with yellow/white lines - it's for motorists to see even from afar. It's a fact: our eyes can see these colors even from long distances.

Megan is right. And I guess because people are already familiar with the color yellow, that even heavy equipment manufacturers are using this color. You know, yellow is considered to be the most visible and most attention-getting color, in which it is used in most traffic and warning signs as well.
