weekend reflection: PNG houses

http://newtowndailyphoto.blogspot.com/
The water engineer on work assignment, took this photo in Papua New Guinea. They look similar to long houses in Borneo. The houses are built on stilts.

Oh, way too close to the water! One big wave and they are gone!!

I hope those houses are up high enough to be above a storm surge. But then, I imagine the builders know their lagoon.

Interesting to see the houses on stilts, maybe it is very necessary to build them up on the stilts.

Clever solution, another Venice, with less comfort. They probably don't have heavy storms as these houses look old.
Interesting to see how people leave in different parts of the world.
Great shot!

The houses are too close to the water, and like Ginny said, I'm afraid for them!

Yes, my first glance told me they are in Malaysia.

We could find like those houses in the Philippines too. Happy weekend!

«Louis» wouldn't want to be in one of those houses when a tropical storm hit!

Seeing these photos I immediately wondered where that was, because I just couldn't imagine NZ with structures like that. Could be anywhere in Asia, though, with those nipa roofs.

I was about to say that this photo reminds me of Papua New Guinea. :) I was there about 23 years ago when I was in the navy.

We see them a lot in the rural areas of the Philippines.

Built on stilts for rising water I imagine. :)
Along our coastlines beach houses are often built on stilts.
