Winter blooming trees

It is such a welcoming change to see early blooming trees after a very cold winter. We went for a climb at Mt Eden Volcano and saw these.

Scenic Sunday :Bridge

We saw this bridge some where in the South Auckland, in Manukau City. The area is a well planned city, except I didn't like the electric power lines overhead. I also didn't like to be so far away from the city. Perhaps when we are retired, I might reconsider.

From the top of the sand dune, you have to go down real low to the low lying river below. It's about six stories down. The water engineer likes the challenge and we go there often at Bethels. I can manage going down only twice, because when you climb up, for every three steps you make, you drop two.

This is real entertainment, three natives from Borneo in loin clothes and parangs aka machete doing a traditional Chinese lion dance.

At the Royal Mulu Resort, on Sunday evening, the dancers wowed us with the dances of all the racial groups of Sarawak. Meanwhile the diners tuck in a scrumptious buffet dinner included the BAKU fern.

Spring is coming?

Those of you basking in the sun in the northern hemisphere will wonder why I am writing about spring. Our seasons are opposite yours, and we had an early Winter. Cold weather started in May, and I asked if it meant winter would finish early too. Some of the plants think so. The snowdrops in my garden bloomed.

Snowdrops are supposed to herald Spring, but Jack Frost is unrelenting. This morning, Auckland was shrouded with thick fog and the visibility was less than 100 yards when I was driving to work. It was freezing. However, at mid day, the sky has cleared, and the kids were running around, some in T-shirts.

Skywatchfriday: Mulu Caves

Much to the amusement of foreign tourists, my guide Antoli pointed to the cave opening that Abraham Lincoln resides at the roof top. In deed the profile of Abraham Lincoln looks quite like him, and Antoli says, all the Amercians who visit always "click, click away"

What do you think? It was worthwhile spending a few thousand dollars and walking 4 kilometers to see this world heritage.
