At the Half Moon Bay Marina, near to the Contol Tower is this wind sock. Do you suppose it is to tell the boaties the wind speed, and not to go out to the Ocean is the wind is too strong?

Hmm...I'm not sure, that makes sense though. I bet boating people know lots of ways to tell when it's a good day for sailing or not.

Wind Socks indicate to you which direction the wind is blowing.

When wind is wearing its pair of socks, it is ready to travel, not us.
Now that is a cheerful marine picture!! I wonder how many boaters pay attention to the socks? My husband uses them a fair bit, they are better than flags for telling the wind. He does not sail, he flies remote control planes.
You also captured a yellow sail cover in your photo, making it doubly appropriate for Mellow Yellow Monday.

I think a wind sock would be very useful for a sailor. Sometimes I miss living near the ocean!
HI Ann, Great windsock for Mellow Yellow Monday. I think they show the direction of the wind to the captains of the boats out in the water.
