ABC Wednesday: X for Xmas

This is Christmas/Xmas Down Under, in New Zealand, not a speck of snow, because it is summer here.

Christmas in the Park is popular in New Zealand as we are having summer. Kids and adults dress up.

No thick costume for Santa, he is wearing our tanktop or singlet, our farmer's uniform, (usually black) in his black gum boots and rides a quad bike.)

The community comes out in droves, free music, freebies. TV Celebs.

Guess the number of candy canes and win a prize.

children loves it being in a trailer cage.

traditional Christmas plant.

New Zealand Xmas tree, this Pohutukawa tree is crimson red at this time.

a Poem that explains why the candy cane is eaten during Xmas.

"Xmas" is an abbreviation of Christmas found particularly in print, based on the initial letter chi (Χ) in Greek Khrīstos (Χριστός), "Christ", though numerous style guides discourage its use;[24] it has precedent in Middle English Χρ̄es masse (where "Χρ̄" is an abbreviation for Χριστός).[23]

I write Xmas a lot especially these days when we use the email and Facebook a lot. I also sign off with XXX.

I'm quite OK with Xmas.
Not sure about Christmas in summer; that'd take an adjustment!

So strange about Christmas there! However it was pretty warm this past week here in SC--in the 70's Fahrenheit. I have used the X in Xmas but I like what you wrote about it. I had never thought about the Greek letters. I was always reminded of the cross when I wrote the X and I found people like to complain about everything and so I ignored it all. But now I have a good excuse, if I can remember it!!! You asked about living in the condo---we don't have a lot of amenities here--but I do use the pool! The best thing is having no outside upkeep on the building and the grounds as we did when we lived in our old house!

I keep forgetting its Summer where you are. I guess the traditional Santa suit would be much too warm.
Nice post for the Christmas holiday. Have a wonderful New Year too Ann.

Another summer Christmas! There are joys no matter what the season, although I've not seen a santa as casual as yours!

A sunny Christmas! Looks like everyone is having a wonderful time. So how many candy canes were in the jar.

What delightful Christmas pictures.

BTW ~ you comment on my Christmas post. Most think of an electric blanket being bed size...but the electric throw is smaller and fits perfect when my dearest is reclining in his chair. Toasty warm and comfy!

Happy New Year.

The Pohutukawa do looks so similar to the Xanthostemon Chrysanthus, they are both from the same Myrtaceae family. It's commonly grown here in the parks, mostly in yellow blooms. I've seen one in red, at the Sentosa Boardwalk.

Not a speck of snow here either in spite of being winter! Stormy weather though. I went back to summer for my X-pic.

Nice post. I've never experienced Christmas in summer, in fact I've never been to the Southern hemisphere!

Great photos, Ann!
YEs, our "White Christmas" in Melbourne was a bit a downer, but fortunately our suburb didn't suffer much damage on account of the hailstones being only hazelnut size. No so other suburbs with golf-bal sized hail!

We had a beautiful sunny San Diego day for Christmas -- and it's still with us. I did reply to your question in the comment part of my blog. But I did it in my bog comments because I couldn't seem to finagle my way through the tech stuff to get to you. Sorry.
