This log was lodged at the river in Mulu when we went passed in the long boat. If this log was sold, it would bring in a lot of money. Sarawak is well known for her hard tropical timber.

may be it's Asia iron wood - Belian..! is there any lumbering in New Zealand? is it controlled?
I wonder what kind of wood it is.
Did this timber just come from nowhere? I know that there is restriction on logging.
I hope it is not illegally cut tree.
some times log come off from the timber company's timber. I don't know if this is one of them.
When I was young in Sibu, when I visit both sets of my grandparents, they lived along the river. We played in the river a lot. Often we see barges dragging lots of timber logs together.
Occasionally, a log will escape, and I remember my uncles would be so happy as they swam to it and take it back to the jetty to enlarge the jetty. No one will sell the single log, perhaps they were worried about being accused of stealing the log.
Ngaio, I don't know if the log is belian.
In New Zealand, there is grown forest of pine trees. The native trees like Kauri are not allowed to be logged.
EG Tour Guide, We have the red iron wood which is very strong. There is a Ramin. My brother Henry is a consultant to the Sarawak Forestry Dept.
This is so different from my world, but I like it:-)
