Sky watch Friday: Western Springs
http://skyley.blogspot.com/
It was a clear sky, a good day to have a picnic and feed the ducks in Western Springs. My favourite place in Auckland. Today, they celebrated Pasifika. The many peoples from the Polynesian islands, the Tongans, the Samoans, the cook islands, Fijians , the Tokolaus come to celebrate. Many of my students come from these tropical islands.

Looks like a perfect place and day for a picnic.
Looks like a beautiful spot and the perfect day for a celebration. Now I must go find out what Pasifika is! :)
Ann,
I just checked out Pasifika and I hope you have a great time at the festival! It's wonderful that you are celebrating all the native cultures from the South Pacific! Wish I could be there to help you celebrate!
Nice place for a picnic. Thanks for your visit.
Lovely spot!
I went to a seminar on Educating Pasifika as a ESOL teacher. The speaker is a Samoan. The Samoan are big people, the Tongans are even bigger. She explained that traditionally the Samoans like their people to be big. It is a bit by in the Middle ages, the Italians like their people big too. So did the Chinese during the Yang Kwei Fei time.
So the Samoan people like to feed their people. It was OK back in the islands, as the food were healthy food like taro and plantain. They were and still is a people where time is of no essence, Work only when required.
But when they come to NZ, the modern diet of junk food and sedentary living is causing a problem of obesity and diabetics.
Very beautiful!
