Skywatch Friday; Moon in the mountains

http://skyley.blogspot.com/href="http://skyley.blogspot.com/">

The moon was very round when Alicia, my cousin went skiing. She was lucky to have good weather.

Yesterday, a bit too much snow fell.

Gale force winds of up to 200km an hour blew some young skiers uphill and smashed car windscreens on Mt Hutt.

The only road off Mt Hutt ski field has reopened, freeing 1200 skiers who spent last night camping out in alpine cafes.

About 1200 skiers - including several hundred schoolchildren - were trapped overnight when winds of more than 200km/h hit the mountain.

The road off the mountain was reopened at about 9.30am. The stranded skiers were briefed and given an energy drink before their descent down the mountain.

Skiers coming off Mt Hutt were mostly positive about the experience.

Australian Jane Fullerton-Smith said the winds at the skifield were "insanely strong".

"It was pretty terrifying," she said.

Her children Ella, 5, and Charlotte, 7, were skiing for the first time and the wind was so strong that they were being blown uphill.

The feeling about the moon in the mountains or in the cities is very much different.

The feeling about the moon when you see it personally or through the eyes of others is very much different.

The feeling ...

"Insanely Strong" is probably the best way to describe those winds and that snow storm, Ann... That's scary--but I'm glad all were safe! Mother Nature can be cruel at times...

Beautiful picture... Love seeing the moon popping up over that mountain.

George and I both love our Prime Rib medium rare also.
Hugs,
Betsy

Wow that is pretty cool, Ann! I like how the sun light reflected on the mountain and then a moon on a blue sky. Happy Friday!

Good grief, how scary! It is good that an avalanche didn't start! Some of these people must have wondered if they would be buried under snow! I'm loving the moon in the mountains!

Wow, that sounds like really strong wind! I'm glad that everyone got through that storm OK. That's a pretty picture of the moon rising up over the mountain.

It is hard to believe people are skiing when we are have a terrible heat wave. I am glad no one was seriously injured in this outing. I love the way you captured the moon looking over the mountains.

Beautiful shot of the moon and mountain! I glad all were okay after the windy ski experience.

Thanks for your comment on my Gettysburg skies. Statues of "Liberty" go back to the Roman goddess of Liberty. The idea liberty (and freedom) has been carved or painted as a woman by many artists. she also appears on coins in the US.

Beautiful shot of the moon and mountains, Ann.
That's a scary experience that would cure me from going back any time soon. Glad no one was hurt.

Ann, I kept looking for snow in your photo... It's hard to imagine a full on snow-wind storm with a blue sky like that! Amazing how fast the weather can turn.

[My niece lived many years in Queenstown, but now she is Auckland. We toured the south island in 2001.]

Great photo Ann, thanks for visiting my blog.

That storm at Mt Hutt this week was probably one of the worst this Winter.
Thankfully everyone was safe.

Hi Ann, I didn't know thistle is the national flower of Scotland, a new information for me. Thanks for that. Happy Friday!

That's a beautiful shot, it reminds me of scenes in the American West. Those winds sound terrifying, I bet they could damage the chairlifts.

Shalom Ann.
This nice photo is so much more peaceful than the news video of the violent winds up there.

Under the white tiles of the Shrine of the Book is concrete.

The moon over the mountains in beautiful, but I'm glad I wasn't caught up in that wind storm!

Wind that strong is truly scary. I'm glad your niece was unharmed, and that it will another adventure story with a happy ending for everyone.

Your photo looks so calm and beautiful, it belies the ferocity of the wind.
