This is a preserved arch of the men's toilet on Rangitoto island, built probably in the 1920s or 1930s. Prison labour is cheap, I wonder if the quality is poor and why the toilet is gone.
There is a large flat clearing done by prison labour in the 30s. Five tennis courts were planned but not eventuated due to lack of finance. The prisoners also built 19km of hand packed roads and trails. One could imagine what an arduous job it was handling the rough volcanic lava rocks.

That arch is quite impressive, especially considering that it was made with convict labor. I hope it can be preserved.
A toilet with and arch - or rather the other way around in this case. Strange.
