For twenty years when I was growing up in Tropical Borneo, I could only dream of "Let it snow." Then I went to Canada, and at the hostel in the University of Windsor, I shared a room with a M. McManus. She invited me home at Kingsville, Ontario.

Her parents fulfilled my "I am dreaming of a white Christmas." They gave me a traditional Canadian Christmas which I greatly enjoyed. If any of you know this family, please let me know.

Now I live in New Zealand, where it is hot and humid at Christmas. I don't dream of the snow because the McManus gave me the best Christmas one can dream for.

These photos were taken in July, and you can imagine why some New Zealander celebrate their winter Christmas in July.

Abc Wednesday/Thursday Theme Song: New Zealand

Letter N for New Zealand, and a New Zealand song. The singing and dancing is very beautiful. The song is performed by two different groups, and you will see that New Zealand people are very adaptable and they have allowed tradition to be incorporated with modern dance.

I am teaching my students the Marae, the meeting place of the Maori people. Earlier this year, I spent an evening there, and later I went with my sister. I learnt quite a bit of protocol to teach my students.

This is the first entrance, where visitors wait until they are invited to enter the grounds. There is a Powhiri. The visitors sing a karanga, telling the hosts they come in peace. The women will enter first, to show indeed they come in peace.




The twirling poi is often used as a symbol of a young woman's affections. They are volatile, but with some energetic training, they protect her from danger. E rere ra e taku poi porotiti

Save the world wednesday, Think Green Thursday: Recycle glass

In a factory in South Auckland, I spotted a big chimney. Upon looking closely, it was a glass recycling plants. What a great idea.

Recycling saves a lot of sand from the beaches, and probably a lot of power from dredging the sand and transportation.

My son Sam only drinks from a glass bottle. he thinks water from a plastic bottle taste funny. So he refills tap water into a glass bottle.
