ABC Letter E: Elevator

Thanks to my friend Sarawakiana for posting a similar theme. When I went to Singapore  last July, I saw this and was glad I had material to post for my Save the world.

When I lived in Singapore for 16 years, I lived in a low rise apartment. We chose a low rise instead of a high rise, because I didn't want to depend on ELECTRICITY and the ELEVATOR.  You can't see the ELEVATOR from the outside, but there are two.

Just as I was coming out of the ELEVATOR at 100 Nanyang Meadows, on 2 occasions, I saw two gentlemen holding books. I observed them. This gentleman told me it was their own kind of library. Anyone can leave books and take them for reading. There is no policing. I was very impressed.

Having lived in such a "gentleman" professor environment, I can only conjecture that that there has to be mutual trust. What a great lesson they were showing their children.

I recount and blogged an occasion where my books walked when I put a box outside to raise funds for my Charity for the Deaf in Kenya. There were some very "Ungentleman" behavior.

So where is the ELEVATOR? I was in it taking the photo, trying to be discrete. May be he will read this post.  Good job the residences of Nanyang Meadows Block 100.

What a lovely idea!! I've heard of several communities that are doing their own "libraries" ... it's just great. Everyone seems to have just as much fun leaving books as borrowing them. In fact, in one the new books are far outnumbering the used ones. Thanks for sharing!

That is a great idea. I can't see the use of keeping books that have been read, except very special ones. We have one of these types of libraries at my gym.
