Scenic Sunday: Climbing up a cliff

The view up the cliff was fantastic, only don't look down.

On Saturday, we went out west to Manukau Heads to Whatipu. I didn't like the long and windy road, and felt like puking.

Once we got there, the beach was worth it and we had quite an adventure when we were stuck in a mini sand storm while we were climbing up a cliff about six stories high. The sand hit us like tiny bullet pellets, we went away with black sand in our hair. The wind blew my hat off.

The sand is black because of the high iron content.

A visitor said we should use a huge magnet and collect iron.

Wow Ann---that was quite a climb... Looks straight up... Did you just sit down and slide back down on your rear end?????? ha...

Great views from up there though...

Cold and VERY snowy here today...

YOU did this??? Oh, I am scared to death of heights!! You must be extremly physically fit!! The sand, it must have made it easy to keep slipping down, how could you ever get a foothold? I was going to say that I hope Betsy doesn't find out about this, or she will be packing her bags, but too late!!

Fantastic view across the sea to the next mountain and what fun it must have been climbing and sliding back down again.

It sounds as if you had quite an adventure climbing that cliff. But the view from the top was definitely worth it.
