ABC Wednesday/Thursday Theme Song: Spider

http://abcwednesdayround3.blogspot.com/

In school, I have been using the British Council's interactive lessons in teaching how, Anansi the Spider got his long thin legs. This story comes from West Africa and the Caribbeans. With the adult students, I give them a lesson of the Slavery History. With the children,I give them strings of wool to be the spider web, and they pull Anansi and have lots of fun.

Some of my children are from Africa, and they are very happy to be learning this story. We use a potato to make stamps and make a before and after of Anansi. The we go to the school grounds and look for Anansi.

How did Anansi get his thin legs? Have you guessed? According to legend, Anansi didn't have thin legs, rather, he had short stubby legs. Anansi was greedy and cunning. He got his friends to pull his web when they were ready for him. Of course, by the time a few friends pulled the webs, his legs got thinner and thinner.

Did you know that spider man has a double, that is why he can work so hard. LOL, These boys are twins, I am not sure who is who. Their mum gave me a few photos.

hootin--anni has a new meme.
IT'S ALL ABOUT MY NEW MEME THAT I HOPE SOME WILL FEEL LIKE JOINING IN ON THE CHALLENGE AND THE FUN [at least I hope the weekly challenge will be fun!]. It's loosely based on song lyrics [recorded songs since the beginning of time to today] and associating them with photos of yours...as I've done in the past...If you click on the link above, it'll take you to the Meme's Homepage for rules and buttons. There will be a Mr. Linky Widget for each individual week also. Do consider joining me sometime. Hope to see it flourish in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He's ingnored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider man.

Oh, I have arachnophobia (fear of spiders). I would be leaving the school during this lesson, but I bet the kids loved it!! I like the story!

When I made a mixed CD for my 50th birthday, I used the Spider-Man theme, to represent the period I work in a comic book store, and also the fact that Spider-Man was my favorite character.

But my friend mocked the couplet:
Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
because it didn't ansewr the question.

I'm not real crazy about spiders - actually, not at all! But you make them sound interesting!!

Very clever... Love your little "Spiderman" Too Cute.

I don't like spiders, and killed a black widow the other day on our back fence. Yikes!

Just love Daddy Long-Legs as we call 'em in Australia they are everywhere they don't hurt anybody, unlike the venomous Red Back Spider which is heading your way so look out for 'em under you toilet seat.

Your spiderman is definitely cuter than the original.

What cute Spidermen!!

I shall have to look up the story of Anansi. I find myths and legends which explain ordinary matters very interesting.

On behalf of the team, thanks for taking part in ABC Wednesday this week!

Spiders are usually not camera shy. If you sing them the song, they must be happier.

Ann, I love the story about the spider! yesterday, I read The Cat Who Walks By Himself, by Kipling, to a friend at the senior's residence. She had never encountered the Just So Stories, and was delighted with it.
You said that you don't like to plant flowers because the frost comes and kills them off - but they have a beauty in the freezing, as well as in the blooming! To every thing there is a season...

They look decidedly different to me. One has longer legs.
