Thursday Theme Song: No blade of grass

hootin--anni has a new meme.
IT'S ALL ABOUT MY NEW MEME THAT I HOPE SOME WILL FEEL LIKE JOINING IN ON THE CHALLENGE AND THE FUN [at least I hope the weekly challenge will be fun!]. It's loosely based on song lyrics [recorded songs since the beginning of time to today] and associating them with photos of yours...as I've done in the past...If you click on the link above, it'll take you to the Meme's Homepage for rules and buttons. There will be a Mr. Linky Widget for each individual week also. Do consider joining me sometime. Hope to see it flourish in time.

Two movies impact me, they are fiction, but may well mirror life. I watched "No Blade of grass" in 1974 when I was 19. I am conscious of the environment and you may have already know from reading my previous posts.

I was chatting with fellow blogger Cezar and Léia, http://luxembourgdaily.blogspot.com/ when I remembered this movie.

Do any of you remember this movie or Roger Whittaker's song? I can't find the lyrics, so I tried to transcribe it here. If you can edit it, please do.

No blade of grass grows,
And birds sing no more.
No joy or laughter where waves wash ashore.
Gone are the answers,
Lost or we will have won.
Gone is the hope that Life will go on.

No fragrant springtime,
And no autumn gold.
Summer and winter,
The heart now grows cold.
Dreams that we live for all have to go.
Gone with the door,
That we will never know.

When we were younger,
The earth was green.
When we were children.
The oceans were green.
Flowers were blooming.
Trees straight and tall.
The sky was blue,
When we were small.

By the beginning of the 70s,
Man has brought destruction of his environment close to the point of no return.
There was plenty of rhetoric of saving the world.
In reality very little was done.

We circle Mars, and we walked on the moon.
We reached the stars,
Oh, one day very soon.

No blade of grass here,
And no blue above.
No you and me.
It is the end of life.

Then one day, the polluted world could take no more.

The fact that sci-fi apocalypse movie No Blade of Grass (1970) begins with a Roger Whitaker song

Nigel Davenport plays a retired soldier called John Custance, who takes his family out of London as civilisation breaks down. A plague is wiping out all the world’s cereal crops (apparently NOT the grass, which is rich and verdant in most background shots) and as food supplies run out, anarchy.

Dear Ann,
What an intelligent and conscious idea for this post.We really need to protect our environment.
I followed the link and the song is beautiful!
"We can't let the roses die neither our dreams..."

Hugs
And a beautiful weekend for you and your lovely family

I don't know how I could have missed it, I had been looking forward to seeing it!! Anyway, glad I spotted it, I have never seen the like!! Wonder how much it costs, it must be very expensive!

Interesting theme, but more my wife's line than mine. I heard this afternoon of the earthquake near Christchurch. I hope all are okay - especially you and your family!
