ABC Wednesday: ICE
http://abcwednesdayround3.blogspot.com/
ABC Wednesday is hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt
We went as a family to New Zealand's most famous glaciers are the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers on the South Island's West Coast. Gouged out by moving ice over thousands of years, the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers are easily accessible to mountaineers and hikers.
It was daunting to see such massive rivers of frozen ice.
On the West Coast, remnants of the ice age cascade from vast snowfields of the Southern Alps to valley floors just 300 metres above sea level. Nowhere in the world's temperate zones are glaciers so accessible - glaciers cover nearly half the area of the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.
Just recently on September the fourth, a Fletcher FU24 aircraft crashed at the end of the runway at Fox Glacier Airport. The crash was New Zealand's worst aviation disaster in 17 years and killed 9.

Ice is nice, especially for I day.
Glaciers are fascinating aren't they?
Airline crashes are, as Carolyn said, tragic.

Bonjour dear Ann
Oh girl, it reminds me that Autumn is coming and then Winter and snow, cold,so...ICE TIME! :)
As I'm from Brazil, you can imagine this kind of weather is not my cup of tea!
So sad the news about the aircraft crashed runway at Fox Glacier Airport.

Buongiorno Ann, I believe that climbing on a glacier must be a beautiful and exciting experience!
I did not even know New Zealand had glaciers! It just goes to show how much we don't know and how much there is to know - ABC Wednesday brings the world a little closer.
Great post - fantastic photograph.

Glaciers are amazing phenomena aren't they?!
So sorry to hear about the crash - especially on top of everything else you all are going through.
Glaciers are so pure and lovely!
Beautiful ice glaciers.
Amazing that with all that dust on the glacier you can still see the blue. Good "I" day! Mine is Instruments of the Nawari.
[Luckily for me, I get to eat many cuisines, but if I were grounded and told I could have only one, it would be Cantonese. I could never grow tired of all the freshness, or my sweetheart's comfort food. The chili I would have with prawns... maybe Sichuan style. :-D]
sorry about the crash
wonderful take on the theme
These magnificent glaciers create beautiful mountains as they move forward.
Nice family shot, Ann.
Although, sad news about airplane crash.
an Earth feature people in the tropics long to see, this is awesome..

Glaciers are mind boggling to me. Amazing. Great photos.
So sorry to hear about the crushing loss of life in the crash.
How very sad about the crash - I'm guessing they were tourists?
We visited the glaciers in 1987. Most impressive!
wow, I've never been to a glacier. The plane crash is so tragic.
I have a cousin in New Zealand but she never mentioned about the glacier hehe. Whew! Ice is coming again..! Well, i still love Philippines, the ice is just inside the fridge..lol.
Happy ABC Wednesday.
