It is not everyday that we get to walk across a big bridge. We had been monitoring this development of this bridge. At last we went as pedestrians. As we left as 1.30pm, the cyclists came anxiously as it too will be opened to them only this afternoon. The 4 lane bridge will then be open only to vehicles.
Today, the $230 million second Manukau harbour bridge or lovingly called the Mangere bridge is officially opened by Prime Minister John Key, with Transport Minister Steven Joyce, Manukau mayor Len Brown and Auckland city mayor John Banks.
There was much fan fare and entertainment and refreshments. Among the various charity group, these two gentlemen caught my eye. Over at my stories site I had just written about MND or Motor Neuron Disease. It may take a long time to walk from one end to another.
It costed $230 millions dollars, and you are allowed to walk only once, you bet we all took a lot time to walk. LOL
Actually, the sealed of the other end so we had to walk back again.
The weather was good today, so lots of people and their dogs turned up.

The inauguration was quite an adventure and to walk on such an expensive bridge also.

I've worked in China since 1985, so yes, I've been around to many many more places than most Chinese in China! The correct spelling for Chinese names is Pinyin, but I guess you wouldn't learn that being in NZ.

Well, what an unusual adventure! Once the bridge is open to traffic, I'm guessing that no one will get to walk on the bridge again. But how great to have this opening ceremony! I think it should be done with all bridges, have a party on them before they open. Because we were really put here to build bridges, weren't we?
I have driven over it, rode in cars and buses over and flew over it 5 times and went under it once. The Golden Gate Bridge.

That quite an impressive bridge, too bad there are no provisions for pedestrians.
The bridge on my blog is currently used for cars. It only carries traffic in one direction at a time, so there is room for pedestrians, but I'd be afraid to walk across it. Thanks for visiting!
