Save the world: When is a Veg, a veg and when is it flower?

I was going into a restaurant when I saw these love plants at the entrance. Is it a veg or is it a flower. It is both.

I couldn't resist this story. 30 years ago, as young marrieds, I got very interested in organic gardening. The back yard was down in a chasm, and was a jungle of years of neglected weed. and converted our front yard into a veg garden. It became both our hobbies. The husband, then a grad student found it very therapeutic .Friends LOL at us. We did this for one season and had wonderful crops. The council never disturbed us.

This is the second time the authorities used a sledge hammer on a little house owner. Why don't they use the court cost to feed all the hungry ones or education them to grow some food like Jason and Jennifer Helvenston?

Don’t ask Jason and Jennifer Helvenston of Orlando how their garden grows. The answer — “At a cost of $500 per day” — is too painful for the couple to contemplate.

The website clickorlando.com reports that the pair have been given until Thursday, two days from now, to uproot the 25-by-25-foot veggie patch in their front yard and replace it with a lawn or beginning paying the fine.

The garden is not in compliance with the city's code, but the Helvenston’s argue that the statute interferes with their constitutional right to use their property to grow their own food. Jason Helvenston told reporters:

ABC Letter Z: Z for Zlin.

When I was young in Borneo, we mainly wore white made in China canvas shoes. If some one wore Bata shoes, it was liken to wearing a pair of Reebok shoes today.

Bata shoes is connected to Zlin, and these 2 students are from Zlin. Maria is my adult ESOL student. Her husband attends another class. They came to visit and I told them to pick my plums. We talked about Zlin and Bata shoes.  I said I hankered for Bata  shoes when I was little. We laughed. Now, we don't want Bata shoes.

This is what I wear now, a tone walker shoe.

Mellow Yellow: Flying

Today, I had the best ever holiday I had, apart from the Black Water Rafting I did about 12 years ago at Waitomoto caves.

I went flying, I don't mean flying in a commercial jumbo plane or Fokker friendship. I flew in a tiger moth. Yes, I mean tiger moth.

I went to Christchurch to visit my old friends. They took me to Loburn, to visit Ivan and Sandy Campbell. We were all excited as we drove to North Canterbury to Loburn Abbey airfield, as we knew we were going to fly in this special plane. Our oldest "pilot" today was Mrs. Chew, aged 81. Paki Paki.

Thoughts of Jean batten conjured in my head. Ivan and Sandra make their own planes and are the creators of the World's only Class leather hard shell flying helmet. Ivan gave us flights and I am so grateful for their generousity.

We all had a marvelous time, looking at the picturesque snow laden mountains, the paddocks, the horses, the sheep and the cows.

Photohunt: ADD :Puffer aka fugu fish

I am a scary cat, you will never get me to eat the puffer aka fugu fish. It is a delicacy in Japan. you also hear of people dying because they ate ill prepared fugu fish. Once, I had an opportunity to not only see it but to eat it.

A friend was given a fugu fish and she took it to the restaurant for the chef to cook it.

No, No way, Jose, was I going to eat it.

This fugu aka puffer fish will not be added to my menu, No matter what antidotes the cooks add to the dish.

 The irony was those brave hearts who ate it survived.

An Australian company called Lynas Corporation is building the world's largest rare earth extraction plant at Gebeng near the city of Kuantan in Malaysia. This project is very controversial in Malaysia because of fears about possible negative health, environmental and economic impacts once the plant begins operation.
