Skywatch Friday: Winter afternoon
http://skyley.blogspot.com/
Everyday I drive past this tree on my way home. I wonder why it is loop sided. Why would anyone trim the branches of only one side of the tree?
The sky was dull and covered completely by clouds. Though the sky in the photo doesn't look dark, it was. You can see from the head lights of the cars.

It is an odd tree with a story to tell, have a great weekend.
I always thought the electric companies here do some weird cutting on the trees. Nice photo, Happy skywatching!
I like dusk and the twinkling of car lights. Perhaps it was the wind that has blown off the branches?
That is odd how the tree looks like it's trimmed on one side. I wonder if it was pruned or maybe the branches on one side were damaged by a storm.
We have many trees that the power company trims like this to prevent the limbs from touching the lines. It seems like it would be better to just cut the entire tree down! Hope you are feeling better Ann.
It looks chilly!
I was going to blame the tree's condition on the power company, too. They can create some pretty weird shapes for trees!
Thanks for you comment about the wild apples. No, they are not the same as crab apples. Crab apples are another cultivated type, just small and a lot more tart than even cooking apples. But they make wonderful jelly! A lot of cultivated apples are grafted onto wild apple roots, because the roots are more hardy than culivated apple roots.
Amazing that you are having winter and we are supposed to have summer, but it is too cold for this time of the year.

I've seen trees cut like that when wires are involved. I don't see any electric wires, so I can't provide any plausible explanation as to why that tree was cut that way.
I think odd-shaped trees are nature's art. I like it!
I don't know --but here, they trim the trees which are around the power lines... We have a gorgeous Maple in our front yard--and they 'butcher' it every 5 or so years --so that it won't grow near the power lines.... I understand why they do it, but you should see what that tree looks like when they cut it.... Yuk!!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
It does look cold! Perfect capture of winter skies! Have no idea why the tree was cut like that, if indeed it was, there are a lot of trees here that look like that for no apparent reason -- as EG wrote, maybe just nature's art! Have a great weekend!

Ann: Definitely looks like someone trimmed the tree.
BTW: There was no fight, just flight by the Starling.
What a curiosity. It looks like someone trimmed it that way, but I can't imagine why. Fun Skywatch post! :)
It looks cold, which is hard for me to imagine since it's so hot here!
An odd looking tree. I wonder what happened with the tree...
Thanks for visiting, Ann...have a great week end :)
Great sky Ann.
Happy SWF and enjoy your weekend.
Happy SWF.

Where's the beautiful sky?!? I suppose it is winter flexing its grey muscles... have a blessed weekend!
that's funny tree on the other side it quite amusing.....have a blessed weekend
Very atmospheric shot, it definitely looks like one of those unpleasant winter days. That tree is certainly strange. Sometimes we get trees like that here in very windswept areas. Today there's nothing but sunshine here as summer's back!
Oh dear sorry about your neighbor and the hydrangea issue. But thanks for stopping by and taking a look. Have a great weekend.
Winter--thanks for the reminder! Neat shot, Ann.
Sometimes the sky is dull; post what you have! The tree... I wonder if it was growing close to another tree and that's why it's like that.
Interesting!
Great shot.
interesting shot. .)
Gorgeous shot, Ann.
I don't have any idea why someone trimmed the tree like that. Have a great Sunday!
Looks like a wonderful afternoon!! :-)
