This is Rhiannon Dilworth, and she is 15. I wanted to give this post a title, Cool kid, but then, I am not sure if I should use the word kid. She's really cool and awesome. Rhiannon helps me out when I am in charge of the creche at Mt Albert Baptist Church on Sundays. She is fantastic with the little ones and they love her. She didn't always look this way, I mean her hair. She used to have long beautiful hair.
Then she decided to shave it off for a good cause. I thought she was very brave to shave it all off, and I supported her. Ka Pai Rhiannon.
Sixteen students, family members and teachers of her school, Western Springs College, lost their locks for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation’s Shave for a Cure campaign.
But when Matthew’s mum pointed out Shave for a Cure was coming up, the pair couldn’t resist signing up for the challenge.
After getting the school’s approval to hold the event, they were soon on the hunt for recruits willing to sacrifice their hair.
"Later that day we found ourselves talking in assembly," Rhiannon says.
So far the group has raised about $3000. Participants got their heads shaved at the school with a gold coin donation for entry and sponsorship from family and friends.
Foundation chief executive Pru Etcheverry says it was fantastic to see Rhiannon and the rest of the team at the school getting involved.
"It’s really wonderful to see them lending their support for fellow New Zealanders of all ages affected by leukaemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers."

What a beautiful story and you little friend has a big heart. Isn't it always amazing dear Ann when the young ones surprise us with such inspiring maturity? We have program here in America called "Locks of Love" that is much the same.

Thanks for sharing this story with us, Ann! It's nice to see kids doing positive things. I know they're out there, they just don't get the coverage they deserve!
What a fine, unselfish young girl. She is beautiful with her hair gone, and it will surely grow back.
That is so COOL! I love kids like this. They are never afraid to do what needs to be done and they grow up to be awesome adults. People like this inspire me every day. If only more of the world were like them eh?
