Apr 10: Vertical
This is specially for fellow blogger Thomas, who likes brick chimneys. I finally went to Victoria Park Market to take this photo. This is a place I don't normally go.
This chimney was once an old 125 foot rubbish incinerator (once known as the Destructor) in the early 1900s. It used to be the city's stables of 90 garbage cart horse. The court yard is cobblestone and gives a very rustic feeling of the old.
This area is renovated with many stalls, artistic shops, cafes and restaurants. The Auckland Hop on Hop Off buses drop tourists, but it is really a disappointment.
Across is the Victoria Street Park. They play cricket and other games. This was where I assembled to run the Round the Bays Run in the 1980s.
It's a view of Auckland that I have never seen before, Sorry the area is a disappointment to see but the chimney sure is tall!
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the tallest vertical signs I've ever seen. Thanks for the information about this part of Auckland.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive! I'm glad it is still there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann for the nice Brick Chimney Photo,
ReplyDeletestill standing tall after almost a hundred years.
Collection of your NZ chimneys are here
This is my first visit to NZ.
ReplyDeletethank you for the information. nice one for the theme.
ReplyDeleteIt looks/sounds like it ought to be very interesting to visit. What is disappointing about it?
ReplyDeleteI think the vertical words really add to it. I like your “angle” on the vertical theme.
ReplyDeleteNow that's really vertical!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!

Sara Cat
