Thursday Theme Song: Return to sender

hootin--anni has a new meme.
IT'S ALL ABOUT MY NEW MEME THAT I HOPE SOME WILL FEEL LIKE JOINING IN ON THE CHALLENGE AND THE FUN [at least I hope the weekly challenge will be fun!]. It's loosely based on song lyrics [recorded songs since the beginning of time to today] and associating them with photos of yours...as I've done in the past...If you click on the link above, it'll take you to the Meme's Homepage for rules and buttons. There will be a Mr. Linky Widget for each individual week also. Do consider joining me sometime. Hope to see it flourish in time.

Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977;

Last week, Elvis' fans celebrated his birthday. He must have been the greatest singer of all times. Even my grand dad spoke of him. Elvis the King is known in Chinese as the Cat King.

Who says Elvis is dead? There are so many theories that Elvis is still alive.

Well, today, I took a long walk to check out a rumour that Elvis is performing down under in Auckland. He is wearing a pair of boxing gloves. I suspect so many people had gone up to shake his hands that parts of them had chipped off.

Here he is in front of a guitar repair shop.

Lyrics

I gave a letter to the postman;
he put it his sack.
Bright and early next morning,
he brought my letter back.

She wrote upon it:
"Return to sender, address unknown.
No such number, no such zone."
We had a quarrel, a lover's spat.
I write "I'm sorry" but my letter keeps coming back.

So then I dropped it in the mailbox
and sent it Special D.
Bright and early next morning,
it came right back to me.

She wrote upon it:
"Return to sender, address unknown.
No such person, no such zone."

This time I'm gonna take it myself
and put it right in her hand.
And if it comes back the very next day,
then I'll understand (the writing on it):

"Return to sender, address unknown.
No such number, no such zone."

Return to sender.
Return to sender.
Return to sender.

"Return to Sender" is a 1962 rock and roll hit single by Elvis Presley. The song was written by Winfield Scott and Otis Blackwell. It is about a man mailing a letter to his girlfriend after an argument. She continually writes "return to sender" and while he keeps receiving the letter with various reasons for returning to sender, including "address unknown" and "no such person". He keeps mailing letters, refusing to believe the relationship is over. Elvis performed "Return to Sender" in the film Girls! Girls! Girls!.

I was watching the million dollar baby. In the movie, Clint Eastwood kept sending his letters to his daughter but they kept coming back. I remembered this song. Morgan Freeman asked why he was writing to her when he knew the letters came back.

I hope your letters never come back.

I loved Elvis. I screamed at his black and white movies with all the other little girls.
Triumph of my life was when my dad, a 1940s dance musician, said, "Hey, this guy can actually sing."
I don't believe he is alive. I know he died a dreadful death and I'm sorry it happened.
I'm older now than he was then. The darlin' man.

I also remember this song. There was a time when Elvis was my favorite singer. Your photo illustrate the song very well.

Hi Ann....so sorry I'm late in getting out to view your Thursday Theme Song for the past week, I've been on a break. But, I'm catching up now. LOL

Great song choice and such a fun way of promoting the lyrics of the late, great Elvis!!!
